Abstract

Background: Leprosy reaction was an immune reaction with consequences that can harm the patient. Leprosy reactions have severe clinical manifestations, although the cause and pathogenesis were not clearly known. According to the health profile of Kupang Regency (2018), the results of patient findings through various surveys of schoolchildren, contact surveys and intensive examinations of patients who came to health results facilities with complaints or contacts with people with leprosy were followed up by providing treatment. The purpose of the study was to find out how Betty Neuman's concept model includes the role of self, psychological factors and coping mechanisms as a measure of the success of leprosy prevention in Kuanheun village, Kupang district. The research design was a descriptive analysis study to determine the role of self, psychological factors and coping mechanisms of leprosy patients in Kuanheun Village, Kupang Regency, using a developed questionnaire. The analysis uses a descriptive table. Results:: The role of the patient for their self was still lacking, the respondents were busy every day so they did not go to the health care center to take medicine, psychologically, the patient felt ashamed of their illness, was depressed and rarely socialized, the coping mechanism was still low, where the respondent felt the pain as a curse, resigned to their condition, all three were in accordance with the concept of Betty Neuman health care system. Conclusion: The self role of the respondents were lacking, the psychology of the respondent were embarrassed and depressed and the patient's coping mechanisms were low in leprosy patients in Kuanheun Village, Kupang Regency.
