Abstract

Background: Risk factors for stunting vary. Research results at both national and international levels show inconsistent results regarding the relationship between breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation for interventions in the First 1000 Days of Life, includes providing exclusive breast milk. This study aims to review and synthesize the scientific evidence needed to guide stunting interventions related to breastfeeding. Method used in the literature review is the Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Data sources from Pro-quest, Neliti, PubMed, Perpusnas, google scholar. Inclusion criteria for stunting incidence factors seen from breastfeeding, articles from 2009-2019, using English and Indonesian. The number of eligible articles was 22. Exclusive criteria are irrelevant literature, researching stunting but in adolescents or adults, there are duplications and articles without free full text. The number of articles that do not meet the criteria is 409. Results: Risk factors for stunting vary greatly from one region to another, exclusive breastfeeding has limited benefits for infant growth, the duration of exclusive breastfeeding is still a matter of debate, especially regarding the insufficiency of breast milk alone to meet the nutritional needs of infants or known as the wealing dilemma and no research has been found regarding the relationship between not breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting. Conclusion: Exclusive breastfeeding is not the only factor contributing to stunting, optimal provision of complementary feeding must be considered. Keywords: Exclusive breast milk; toddle; duration; stunting
